RIGGING & LIFTING (RLC 1) (3 Days)


The aim of this course is to deem candidates competent according to the OPITO standard and to begin the second stage of their training in the workplace under supervision.

  • Provide an understanding of initial planning

  • Attaching/detaching and securing loads

  • Environmental considerations

  • Proximity hazards

  • De-rating of equipment

  • Pre use equipment checks

  • Thorough examination and inspection

  • Preparation of a lifting plan

  • Sling angles

  • Effects of angles & tensions

  • Delegates will work in teams to examine lifting machinery and accessories then plan and undertake routine rigging tasks. Including cross-hauling methods

  • Delegates will work in teams undertake various Complex rigging tasks

  • Delegates will be required to individually plan given rigging tasks assessed on their knowledge and skills learned

Target Group


The purpose of this training course is to provide delegates with a series of explanations and demonstrations, which will identify what they are, expected to know and do when involved in Rigging and Lifting Operations. This is followed by numerous practical exercises, which allows delegates to be assessed by experienced instructors and assessors. An individual assessment to determine learning outcomes and competency will be prepared for each delegate.

On successful completion delegates will be issued with an OPITO Rigger Training Stage 1 certificate which is valid for two years.

RIGGING & LIFTING LEVEL 2 (RLC 2) (2 Days)


The aim and objectives of the level 2 competence assessment are to establish that the candidate has the required underpinning knowledge, understanding and practical skills to fulfil the role of Rigger safely and effectively.

Prerequisites


Candidates for Level Rigging & Lifting Competence assessment require a valid RLC 1 Certificate

Note:

An experienced rigger can opt to take the level 2 Assessment without completing Stages 1, if they have verifiable evidence of the relevant experience.

This course meets the requirement laid down by OPITO, and contains the following Unit containing 2 Elements;

  • Element 1.1 - Plan and prepare for lifting and moving of loads

  • Element 1.2 - Lifting, moving lowering and landing loads

Target Group


This course is designed for personnel who that wish to become OPITO-certified competent riggers - having successfully completed the Rigging & Lifting level 1 Training and Workplace Experience, or possess sufficient and relevant work experience to be eligible for the RLC 2 assessment.

On successful completion delegates will be issued with Rigger Competence Certificate, which is valid for 2 years.

BANKSMAN & SLINGER COURSE (3 Days)


The aim and objective of the Banksman competence assessment is to establish that the candidate has the required underpinning knowledge, understanding and practical skills to fulfil the role of Banksman & Slinger safely and effectively. This course meets the requirements laid down by OPITO, and contains the following units;

  • Unit 1: direct and control the movement and placing of loads

  • Unit 1 focuses on the Banksmans role specifying the performance and underpinning

  • Knowledge/understanding criteria for maintaining clear and accurate communications with the crane operator, and maintaining an awareness of other ongoing operations that may affect lifting activities

  • Unit 2: prepare and sling loads

  • Unit 2 focuses on the slingers role specifying the performance and underpinning

  • Knowledge/understanding criteria for establishing the weight of the load; determining and checking the lifting method, the lifting accessories; the slinging of loads, and clearing the work area

Target Group


This course is designed for personnel that wish to become competent Banksmen & Slingers - having previously completed Banksman & Slinger training, and/or possess sufficient and relevant work experience to be eligible for the OPITO Stage 3 assessment.

On successful completion the candidate will be awarded a Banksman & Slinging , which is valid for 2 years.

RIGGING LOFT MANAGEMENT & INSPECTION (RLMI) (3 Days)


To Provide delegates with greater knowledge and understanding of the legal and practical requirements of running and controlling a rigging loft onboard an offshore installation or a shore based workplace.

  • Key management elements

  • The rigging loft controller

  • Loft and equipment registers

  • Regulations applying to rigging loft management (LOLER)

  • Lifting gear examiner

Target Group


This course is considered suitable for those having little or no knowledge of rigging loft management, as well as those more experienced individuals wishing to update their certification.

LIFTING EQUIPMENT INSPECTOR LEVEL 1 (3 Days)


This course will enable the delegate to gain a better understanding of the Loler Regulations and the practical experience of inspecting lifting Equipment and Accessories.

This course is a combination of both theory and practical content.

  • Legislation: British Standards/LOLER/Fleet angles

  • Rope construction and characteristics

  • Wire rope inspection

  • Make up of steel wire ropes, assessment of wire rope condition

  • Cores: Fibre and steel, wire rope maintenance

  • General purpose wire ropes, assessment of discard criteria

  • Round strand ropes, broken wires/wear

  • Different rope lays, localised broken wires

  • Wire rope terminations

  • Eyes and ferrules

  • Rope drums

  • Rope selection for different drums

  • Defects to be considered during inspection

  • Inspection of slings, shackles, chain hoists, pull lifts, tirfors and beam clamps

On successful completion of this course delegates will be issued and In House Training providers certificate.

LIFTING EQUIPMENT INSPECTOR LEVEL 2 (4 Days)


To Provide delegates with a thorough grounding of the law and standards pertaining to lifting equipment. To teach the statutory requirements for, inspection, rejection and reporting of lifting equipments in service. To provide some practical advice that will enable those who attend to carry out lifting equipments inspections confidently. By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Carry out statutory ‘in service’ inspections.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of examination, storage, marking and handling of lifting gear

  • Demonstrate knowledge of terminology, law, standards and safe working practices concerning lifting gear

  • Offer sound advice to other users

  • Maintain a safe working environment whilst working with lifting gear.

This two-day course is carried out in accordance with the code of practice for the safe use of lifting equipment as per LEEA. It includes a number of short written confirmation tests and a practical lifting equipment inspection assessment.

APPOINTED PERSON (LIFTING) (3 Days)


Appointed persons course delivers the necessary skills and knowledge to manage and plan the types of lifts or moving loads operations that occur within the industry. Legisaltion, Safe working practices and Procedures;
